Ning Manchester
Ning Restaurant Manchester
Combining oriental chic with Northern Quarter charm, Ning is a gorgeous independent south east Asian restaurant on the edge of Ancoats and the Northern Quarter. Currently open in the evenings, there's a chilled-out feel, very friendly service and a simple, authentic à la carte choice.
With a focus on Malaysian and Thai specialities, the food is fresh, halal and MSG-free and more than half of the available dishes can be ordered as vegetarian or vegan.

The decor is contemporary oriental with bold bespoke wallpaper and Malay batik prints in the bar area. Ning is available for private hire and also offers an outside catering service.
Norman Musa leads Ning. He is an experienced cook, bringing inventive ideas and contemporary style to his native Malaysian food, fusing the best of Western quality and presentation style with authentic, home-cooked cuisine from across South East Asia.
Set within a simple but chic venue and served by friendly waiting staff, Ning is influenced in concept by trendy noodle bars of Asian cities, with the relaxed and sociable ambience of continental European cafés. The aim is to be an authentic and stylish, welcoming and inclusive venue without the pretension.
Look out for excellent deals and promotions, including Ning's £12.95 menu, the superb set meals and the regular Malay cookery classes in the restaurant.

"Ning is a hidden gem! Located at the top end of Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, this Malaysian and Thai restaurant is beautifully decorated and offers some of the best South East Asian food in Manchester at a wonderfully affordable price. There's a great selection of Malaysian dishes to choose from with other Asian favourites from Thailand and Indonesia available too. Whilst this area of town has drastically changed for the better in the past year or so, you can't help but feel that if Ning was located elsewhere in the city centre it would deservedly be one of the busiest restaurants in town. It's certainly one we'll be venturing to again and again."

Proprietors Norman & Andy now offering consultancy services for aspiring Malaysian restaurateurs, as part of our commitment to promote a Malaysian food revolution in the UK! We have just commenced work advising two clients looking to open restaurants/cafes in London & the East Midlands.
Former quantity surveyor-turned-chef Norman Musa (Penang-born) has made a name for himself with Ning restaurant in Manchester, England. The word "Ning" is a note played on the gamelan, a musical instrument that Ning executive chef Norman Musa used to play with his late mother. Norman, a self-taught chef, picked up all the cooking skill from his mother. Ning started operation since 2006, when Norman quit his job as a quantity surveyor, with a business partner Andy Spracklen.

Norman's decision to move into the kitchen has catapulted him to fame. Not only has Ning flourished, with rave review from local media, but Norman has also shot to fame as an up-and-coming celebrity chef. His name needs no further introduction in the UK, where it becomes a brand that promotes Malaysia cuisine fused with Western quality and presentation. A cookbook to his name and held numerous cooking demonstrations, Norman's cooking class are always packed. He has also made numerous television appearances in UK, including on Market Kitchen with celebrity Rachel Allen. His biggest break came when he joined Gordon Ramsay in a TV series that will be aired next year. He is also in active discussions with TV producers in Malaysia and UK for his own cooking series. The height of his career was when he was nominated Manchester Chef of the Year finalist and appointed Race Chef for Formula One team and member of the Prestige Magazine Malaysia's Top 40 Under 40 List 2010.

Malaysian Favourite at Ning Restaurant
Air sirap is a humble drink served in a tall glass and Norman has made the rose flavored drink tastier and sweeter. Frothy teh tarik has become a hit with Mancunians and it tasted exactly like the ones in the mamak restaurant. Nasi Lemak is aromatic and rich but sambal will be sweeter, cater to English tastebud, it is the hot seller which is serve together with beef rendang and acar. Another hot seller, Tom Yam soup and chicken murtabak. You can opt. for some memorable dishes like, ayam percik, ayam masak merah, Thai green curry and Singapore fried bihun. Except for the lack spiciness from the hot chili, Ning's food is as close as it gets to home-cooked Malaysian food. In fact, Norman has specially hired 2 cooks from Penang.
