Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong @ Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong

Dating back to when stores specialized in one item, this soy product store sells almost any soy-related food product and makes for a great place to stop for a tasty afternoon snack after wandering around Ap Liu Street. The main items revolve consist of: Soy milk, Soy gelatin (curd), Fried tofu with fish paste. Since this is a specialized store, everything has a much stronger soybean taste than the factory-produced items. Even though there's probably nothing that will scare novices, come with a local to try a variety of items. Seating is very basic on folding tables and round stools but that's part of the charm.

Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong
(Kung Wo Soya Bean Factory)
G/F, 118 Pei Ho Street, Sham Shui Po
Tel: 2386 6871
Average Spending: Below $40

Price list: Fried Tofu (HKD8), Fried Tofu with Fish Paste (HKD10), Soya Milk (HKD4), Tau Foo Far (HKD8)
The soy curd came in a very generous portion with sweet sugar syrup base. If it's not sweet enough for your already, you can add "yellow sugar" from the containers sitting on each table. It's very filling, so get it to share if you want to try other things. The soy curd was very firm and had a slight soybean taste, a good sign that it was made from a high percentage of soy beans, rather than gelatin.
The fried tofu with fish paste is also a specialty and was nicely pan-fried with a crispy skin, but soft tofu on the inside, as well as fish paste on top. Add some of the sweet chili sauce for a real treat. For less than $20 per item, this place is a steal, although not offering the best environment.
