I have to admit that prices of seafood is a little higher than other seafood restaurant of equal food quality but may not have the same ambience as this restaurant. Here you can try what the locals eat during their after tea-break. If you have a little extra time in Sandakan, do try the hawker food at Central Market (2nd and 3rd floor, Mile Eight Market and Saturday Night Market Mile 4 Bandar Kim Fung to experience the locals life!

YUZU has been praised for its innovative menu and quality food, but be prepare to pay a little more for a quality ingredients comparing with other Japanese outlets in the mall. Yuzu offer Japanese set menus which are affordable without compromising the quality of food. If you like sashimi, do ask for the chef selection of the day but prepare to pay a hefty price for it. For my dining experience, Yuzu's service staffs are attentive and helpful. The restaurant is decorated with a Zen style of interior which create an warm and elegant ambient.

BBQ buffet dinner is available at Best Brews, Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan with a selection of grilled meat. There would also be live band performances, games like three-dice and pool, and an atmospheric bar. Is a great place to get together with friends and family to have fun while having some great beer, enjoying the BBQ dinner and cheering on your favorite sport team on the screen.

Talang Salted Fish @ Bridge No.5, Sim Sim Water Village, Sandakan

Salted fish was created before refrigeration technique was invented, fish and other seafood were cured in salt. This locally known salted ikan talang (Queenfish) is the largest of 4 species of queenfish found in tropical waters. Most Talang fish caught by anglers are between 0.8kg to 8kg. Specimens 10kg or more are less common. This species is silvery-grey in colour with bronze patches on the head. It has a firm, white meat which make it excellent for salted fish.

Dairy Bread Bakery UFO & Egg tart from Weng Hup Lee Bakery, Sandakan

UFO cake which was name so because of it outlooks resemblance the shape of it, a famous dessert in Sandakan, you can easily get one from many local coffee shop and night market. UFO cake has a soft vanilla-flavored cake base topped with sweet creamy custard. UFO cake was created accidentally 50 years ago by a Hainanese cake baker named Fu Ah On, he actually overbaked his tarts which turn out to be a delicious and local favorite, later it became a traditional cake unique to Sandakan until today. Also, must not forget to try the popular thin crust egg tart from Weng Hup Lee Bakery shop around the corner of Taman Sibunga.

Nam Chai Restaurant Bak Kut Teh @ Sandakan

There are a few popular Bak Kut Teh places in Sandakan. Nam Chai Restaurant Bah Kut Teh located at Bandar Nam Tung (Tanah Merah) is one of the local favorite too. Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan is quite a little different from West Malaysia, which slightly rich in peppery hot flavor and flooded with soup, it's available at lunch and dinner. Here you can choose seafood (whole fish, fish fillet and prawn) or the usual traditional Bak Kut Teh ingredients like pork ribs, pork belly, pork intestine, pork kidney and etc. Rice noodle in Bak Kut Teh soup is also one of the specialty in Sandakan.

Kedai Makan Kong Teck @ Sandakan

Fish Mee is one local signature dish of Sandakan which their noodles are made with fish paste and cut into strip, and it's all about everything made from fish, from fish ball, fish roll, fried fish dumpling, fish cake and more. Kedai Makan Kong Teck is located in a row of shops when you turn into Taman Pak Tak at Mile 7 Sandakan town. You can choose to have it in clear soup, curry soup, prawn soup and must try their Hakka noodle (dry) topped with minced pork or Hakka loh sue fun topped with fried pork with spices and minced pork.

After the Culinary Challenge at the The Eatery , we make our move to the Wrapped down the Ground level of Four Points for a tea-time feel good treats. We get to try some of their ice cold beverages, signature's Bristot 1919 Coffee and Gryphon Teas. On top of that, you can request for their special signature latte which is not on the menu...order from the barrister, must try!

CulinaryChallenge @ Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan

The challenge? Each team gets handed the same ingredients, and they have 15 minutes to come up with as many kuih ketayap as possible. It’s more fun to cook something yourself and you get to eat it too. Judges got to watch the fireworks and teamwork in the 2 cooking station, walk around amongst the chefs during the challenge as they do their thing.

Restaurant Seafood Sim Sim 88 @ Sim Sim Water Village, Sandakan

If you like seafood I will strongly recommend you not to miss out dining at Bridge 8, Sim Sim Water Village, it was the highlight of my overall foodie experienced. There are 3 to 4 restaurants located along Sim Sim Water Village (stretch from bridge no.8, 7, 6 and 5). This restaurant is build on the sea with bridges attached to land and all floating residential. There are two restaurants with similar name on Bridge no.8, Restaurant Seafood Sim Sim 88 and Restaurant Seafood Sim Sim it is located side to side. In Sabah you can really see a true sense of unity, where the Chinese, Malay, Indian, Kadazan and others will sit down and dine in a Chinese restaurant as long as it serve no pork.

I was delighted to accept the Four Points by Sheraton invitation to stay for two nights in Sandakan, Malaysia. It was my first time in Sandakan and I have a very good experience to share. As I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by a lovely lobby with modern furniture. Hotel staff were dressed in pleasant uniform and welcomed us with a friendly smile. Check-in was swift and in no time I was on my way up the elevator to my room.
