Motorino Pizzeria Malaysia, One of NY’s Finest in Genting Highlands

Today I want to write about pizza. When it comes to pizza, there is really no hard and fast rule as to what makes the best pizza. I spent the last decade trying out pizzas everywhere with friends, and let me tell you, everyone has a different thing that makes it work for them.

Restaurateurs will readily swear that it is about the secret dough recipe and how it is about baking the crust to hot perfection. Pizza lovers will tell you that it is about the kind of toppings they have, whether the tomato sauce used is sweet or sour, and the kind of combos that you could squeeze out with a particular budget. And for others, all this is moot if you do not have loads of cheese, the more of it the better. I mean, even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles love pizza, and make sure it does not have anchovies!

“Working hard, using the best of everything and staying true to every pizza that comes out of the oven is what we've built on since we opened in Brooklyn. Pizza is our business. As a neighborhood pizzeria, whether in New York or Hong Kong, Motorino strives to be the reliable option both on a plate in the shop or in a cardboard box delivered at home. We hope you enjoy.”

A Belgian-born chef, Motorino was founded by Mathieu Palombino whose culinary roots are in french cuisine. Formerly the Chef de Cuisine at BLT Fish when the restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star, Chef Mathieu left the fine dining scene to open Motorino, a restaurant that offers Neapolitan pizza fired by an Acunto oven. And after my visit to their latest restaurant opened here in SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting, I can honestly say that it is one built upon really good foods.

DID YOU KNOW? Motorino is a famous name back in New York City. It has been featured in many rave reviews, was featured on television, visited and vouched for by celebrities and even recommended in the Michelin Guides of 2010 and 2011 Bib Gourmand respectively. There are even YouTube videos of Motorino online, my fav is prolly the one by Pizza Today Magazine (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zo956ufDfs). There is even a video of Chef Mathieu tossing pizza (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTt3iPcMJHE).

Motorino Malaysia is located on the first floor of Sky Avenue, right next to Cafés Richard. The place is warm and cozy, so if you are escaping the cold outside you have come to the right place. Their menu is distinctly Italian; they offer Antipasti (starters), Dolci (desserts), Bottled Beers, Soft Drinks, Fresh Juices, and a selection of Red and White Wines.

Reader’s Tip: Please keep in mind that in Resorts World Genting, foods are priced according to those having membership with the highland resort. They do not really vary that much, but if you are one of those keen spenders, then it pays to have a membership card with Resorts World Genting!
Motorino Meatballs @ RM24/RM26 For Non-Members 👍
Chicken Meatballs braised in Tomato sauce, and garnished with Pecorino cheese and fresh basil. It was soooo good, I got a bit greedy and had extra helpings.

Roasted Chicken Wings @ RM18/RM20 For Non-Members 👍
Chicken Wings roasted and then served on a bed of lemon sauce, garnished with lemon skin, mint, chilli flakes and red onions. Reader’s Tip: Give the skin a good twist over the ensemble to release the lemon oils for a nice zesty hint.

The main highlight of Motorino Malaysia is of course their Pizze! Here, they offer 9 different pizzas. “This is probably the best brick oven made in Italy.” - Chef Mathieu Palombino, in an interview with Mr. Oliver Strand of the New York Times, on being queried on the purchase of his second restaurant in NY equipped with an Acunto oven. You can read more about it here.

The pizza crust has a light structure with nice bubbles and has a delightful char. Thanks to the brick oven used in the restaurant, the temperature is balanced inside resulting in a pizza crust that is cooked on the top and bottom at the same time instead of being burnt on only one-side. The foods were enjoyable and the time spent there memorable.
Well, that wraps it up for this installment on the delights currently available at the new Sky Avenue at Resorts World Genting. There are lots more to explore, watch this space as we spend 2017 exploring what else Genting Highlands has to offer. And if you and your friends are hungry, go grab some fantastic pizza. Cheers! ! ~ Marv.7
