Exhibition Fusing Different Forms of Art, Kota Kinabalu

For the first time in Sabah, the opening of an art exhibition combined five (5) different forms of art: painting, dance, music, hair and makeup, plus food. This is the sixth art exhibition organized by Contagious Creative Agency at South Sea Sanctuary in Kampung Air. Entitled “Free Range”, the event showcased the work of international artists Ganna Sorokina from Ukraine and Mathieu Cambier from France.

This is Sorokina’s third and final exhibition in Kota Kinabalu. Her collection is strongly influenced by the themes and colours of Borneo and driven by desire to experiment. Cambier on the other hand has exhibited at numerous galleries in the North of England, Lybia and Kuching. This is his first showcase in town. His artistic vision is to create a painted diary of life, a record of the rich variety of people and places he has seen and to capture the passage of time.

The Opening Night held on Friday also featured a dance installment by TACKit, a social participatory art group that uses art as an investigative tool in understanding human nature. The group engages people of diverse backgrounds to build critical dialog on social issues and aims to create an art centric environment that fosters art based education & pioneers progressive art research in Borneo.
To accompany the 20-minute long dance installment, an original music soundscape was created by up and coming experimental duo, CoffeeVersusEvil (CVE). This singer-songwriter collaboration who also performed live during the event is managed by RMB Records. The duo featuring Rene Barrow and Rozie Marie fuses different genres and sounds. CVE is expecting to release their first EP by the end of this year.
Makeup and hair was designed by MUAH Studio and food was provided by LVE Restaurant in Chaya Hotel. The art exhibition will be ongoing until 26 August 2013. All artworks are for sale and visiting hours are from 11:00am to 11:00pm. Admission is free.
Contagious Creative Agency aims to create a platform for local and international artists of different forms to showcase their talents. The group will be organizing three (3) more art exhibitions this year. Interested artists who are keen to feature their artworks in similar exhibitions in 2014 can contact them directly.
