March Delights at Gin Rik Sha Restaurant & Bar

Everyday Food I Love returns to GinRikSha after a short hiatus! On our last visit, we were impressed by the new ambience of the place as well as their focus on fusion Indian flavors. They also have a super-talented lady behind the bar who makes all these amazing cocktails that have tongues in Bukit Damansara wagging. We therefore came with higher than usual expectations and for me, I am glad to say that it was simply amazing. Readers who would like to know more from our last visit can read about it at the link here.

As a photographer and a student of architecture photography, I was amazed that the ambience of GinRikSha remained constant throughout the night and day. You could literally spend hours at this place, settle down and be unaware of the passage of time. Places like these where you can sit down to some good food and drinks and idle the hours away from the hustle and bustle of city-life are like a heaven-sent oasis, what a treasured find!

The menu at GinRikSha is studded with some amazing offerings, and their foods are grouped chiefly under the categories of Small Plates (appetisers), To Share... Or NOT (mains), A Bigger Share (mains for sharing), A Bit on the Side (side dishes), Soups and Salads, Breads and Dessert. There is also a separate section in their menu for additional Sauces, Chutneys and Pickles.

Patrons new to GinRikSha will have an easy time, for they have helpfully marked vegetarian and house favourites in their menu. Of notable mention is the Pakora Basket (RM20), which consists of crispy vegetable fritters served with green chilli chutney. Another popular dish is unsurprisingly, the Tamarind Glazed Sesame Wings (RM22), where crispy chicken wings are drizzled with sweet and sour tamarind glaze and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Other favourites not covered in this post includes the Salt & Pepper Squid (RM20), Butter Chicken Poutine (RM22), Varuval Quesadilla (RM34), Kerala Shrimp (RM38), Mushroom Briyani (RM24), Vegetable Lasagne (RM25), Banana Leaf Baked Sea Bass (RM36), Buttermilk Prawns with Mantau Bun (RM36) and many others.

This refreshing cool cocktail is the Gin Basil Smash!
I started off my visit with a cocktail, the revivifying Gin Basil Smash. It also included a few slices of cucumber to help bring the heat of the day down, it was simply marvellous!

Pop Corn Tempura RM14 👍
This is not the centuries old popcorn recipe you are used to seeing at the movies! It is in fact sweet corn fried in a light tempura batter. Crunchy and sweet, this vegetarian dish is a house favourite!

Garlic and Mushroom Soup RM14
This creamy appetiser added a nice touch of home to the table and dining experience. It came accompanied with lightly garnished bread which made eating it a lot more wholesome compared to just drinking the soup by itself.

Mutton Varuval RM32 👍
Now I am a big fan of Indian cuisine. At the place where I grew up, good indian food was hard to come by. And I also like the fact that Indian foods are savory and spicy! Unlike other iterations, GinRikSha's version of this South Indian dish was not too dry, and I liked it because you could literally savour the complexity of the condiments and spices infused with the mutton, which in this case includes onions, ginger, garlic and a special in-house Masala salt. The Mutton Varuval is served with lightly garnished bread, but I can imagine it going well with steamed or briyani rice or even chappati or naan bread.

Spinach Risotto with Spicy Sautéed Potatoes RM24 👍👍
This vegetarian dish quickly became my favourite! While there is nothing new with Spinach Risotto, GinRikSha's version of this dish was done with very well, with the creamy spinach flavour blending well with the sticky chewy texture. In between mouthfuls, I couldn't help but marvel at the colour and presentation of this dish, I'd rate this 2 thumbs up!
Absolutely Delicious!!

Spicy Honey Garlic Rack of Lamb RM48 👍👍
This dish is definitely Angeline's favourite for the evening! The minute I laid eyes on it I knew I had to let her take two portions instead of sharing it equally. 😆 The grilled lamb was very tender and juicy, with a rib sticking out for easy eating, don't be shy to use your fingers! I held mine firmly and did not put it down until I was done, it was that good. The lamb rack was made even more delicious with a generous drizzling of spicy honey garlic sauce.

Magnificient!
Mango Chicken Papadam RM18
This dish would make a great addition to a food-sharing session, and in a pinch would be great as finger foods at a party. The taste was interesting, as the savory chicken below contrasts with the sweet mango.
Salted Caramel Pecan Mille Crepe RM16 👍
This dessert is incredibly addictive, once you start eating it, it becomes near impossible to stop as you studiously take measured portions with a fork and savour in each bite. The texture of this crepe was incredible, and the very rich in taste.
Crème Caramel RM16
This custard dessert with the soft caramel layer was a delight, it had a nice texture and the taste was creamy and not too sweet.

Our stay at GinRikSha was a memorable one, so you can be sure I will be coming back here to sample the rest of the menu with my friends. GinRikSha also caters to private events, so why not give them a call in advance and make some enquiries or better yet, bring your family and friends and give their foods a try? Happy feasting! ~ Marv.7
