Restoran Yun Foh @ Menggatal Plaza

In yet another instalment of our food adventure at Menggatal Plaza, we've uncovered an unassuming place whose namesake is strangely similar to another one at Kingfisher. So here we are at Restoran Yun Foh and immediately we had an idea what dish is famous by peeking at tables of other customers.

Restoran Yun Foh
Menggatal Plaza Phase 1,
Jalan Tuaran, Taman Permai,
Kota Kinabalu, 88400.

A good Chinese eatery worth their salt would make a knockout watanho, and we are not disappointed at all. This is basically a flat rice noodles which is first stir fried at high pressure heat and then bathed in eggy thick starchy gravy with pieces of meat and green vegetables. For me, the main focus is the gravy and this is where Yun Foh aced it: fragrant and tasty with a nice thick consistency down to the last drop. The fresh vegetables still firm and crunchy means it saw the heat only a brief second, and then the noodles with a nice earthy flavor touched by a skilful play of wok and ladle on high pressure heat, the end result is nothing less than a satisfying treat.

This dish is just one of the few we can call homegrown. This Tamparuli noodles, which was once so rare, you have to drive all the way to a place called Tamparuli (hence the name from which it originates) which is just short of an hour from KK city centre. Now you can have it in just a short drive away to Menggatal Plaza. This long strand egg noodles is soft to the bite but has a full bodied aroma when prepared properly. It is stirfried quickly with vegetables to retain freshness and to lock in the flavours, and then separately topped with juicy barbecued pork and plain egg omelette. A simple noodle dish but with layers of texture and taste, you really have to try this to appreciate this local delicacy.

Stay tuned and keep it locked in right here for more of our in depth feedback on blogpost of Menggatal Plaza that we've covered in the past few weeks. Remember, head on down to Menggatal area and just look for the signage of CKS Supermarket and you'll definitely be hit by very good food with reasonable price.
