Hakkas have a distinctive culture and history, with a lineage believed to be the decendants of the northern Hans people living in Shanxi, Henan and Hebei. As the named 'Hak' means 'guest' in Chinese character, as they are newcomers when they fled south plagued by wars and disasters during Eastern Jin Dynasty. Hakka cuisine, to some extent, was greatly influenced by their culture and living conditions during the migration. When fertile area had already been occupied by the locals, they need to roam far and wide for agricultural land. It required great physical strength. Hence traditional Hakka cuisine has these characteristics : salty, oily, flavourful and preserved.

A wood-fired oven is typically heated only once during the firing stage, unlike modern household gas or electric oven that provides an almost constant temperature. After the coals are removed, the oven’s temperature gradually decreases over a period of hours or even days. The retained heat in the oven may be used to bake multiple batches of food. Alternatively, foods requiring different temperatures can be cooked in series as the temperature of the oven falls.

It's very convenient and easy to locate this place if you're staying around Roma Termini area. It's a super busy restaurant, please be ready for a little wait. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner,  at lunch hours, you can order some set lunch which is more value for money. They serves up some good pizza and pasta with a friendly services.

This restaurant is famed for handmade noodles in starchy black soy sauce together with vegetables, meat and pork lard or better known as Loh Mee and another specialty dish here is the Fried Fish Cake comes with a sweet and spicy dip sauce. Aside from the famous Ulu Yam Loh Mee, they also features the typical Chinese course and dishes to be served with steamed rice.

There are a lots of good food located at Old Klang Road area, most particularly good in bak kut teh and steamed fish. Many restaurants that stretched along winding road, dozens of it. Finding the right place can be a bit tricky. This is my regular place for steamed fish place and is highly recommended by many. Ah Wang Bak Kut Teh, it's located at the road side under the fly over right before Scott Garden. Although this place is named Ah Wang Bak Kut The but their signature dish is actually the steamed fish head in 4 options of sauces (assam, bean paste, ginger or soy sauce). This is a must visit or dining place for every trip I'm in KL. Heavenly good steamed fish head, highly recommended you order Assam and Bean Paste Sauce for your steamed fish head, try it!

Malindo Air to KL for Sinusitis Surgery @ Sunway Medical Centre

I would say, Malindo Air is my most prefer airline to fly from KK-KL-KK. I like their comfortable seat with good legroom, variety of inflight entertainment, moderate service from the flight attendant and light snack provided (mineral water and biscuit) which is great for a short-hauled flight, no worries if you are hungry, you can still purchase food on board. It has a nice and simple interior design, great and calm lighting mood. I would highly recommended you try this airline, you'll have a 15kg free check-in baggage and please bring your own ear phone if you don't want to spend RM15 to purchase it on board. This trip I'm going for Sinusitis Surgery under Dr. Koay Cheng Eng (ENT Specialist) at Sunway Medical Centre, checking in tomorrow morning 7am (16th Jan 2014, Thursday).

The 15 days celebration of Chinese new year starts on Friday 31st Jan 2014, with the first new moon of the calendar year. The day marks the end of the year of the water snake and welcomes the start of the year of the wooden horse. Red is a key colour for New Year's celebrations, as it symbolises a bright and happy future. This year will mark the beginning of the Year of the Horse: this animal signifies surprises in adventure and romance, and people born during this year are believed to be good communicators, kind, talkative, independent, and impatient.

Chinese New Year Day 1 (Horse 2014) - Vegetarian Day

Every year, without failed, my mom will prepare vegetarian cuisine on the first day of Chinese New Year. Abstaining from meat consumption on the first day is believed to enhance longevity. Additionally, a vegetarian dish helps to purify and cleanse out the body as well as it honors a Buddhist tradition that nothing living should be killed on the first day of the New Year.
