Pang (Hainan) Seafood @ Jln Tg Bungah, Penang

Angeline Monday, July 4, 2011 , ,

As you travell from Jalan Tanjung Tokong or George Town, Pang (Hainan) Seafood is on the right hand side of Jalan Tanjung Bungah. It's a Pork Free restaurant. In the early days of late 70s, Cart Wheel Pub which was operating in the building where Pang (Hainan) Seafood is occupying now. At one time Cart Wheel Pub was very popular among the beer drinkers and also the dart players too. The whole building has been renovated and refurbished. A new facelift has been given to this building.

Live Crabs (Ketam Batu)

Kam Heong Crab RM6.00 per 100g (Note : Min Order 2 Nos)
This dish is a bit spicy. Lately Kam Heong Crab was added in the Menu of Pang (Hainan) Seafood. You will find the crabs are cooked with curry leaves, sliced onions, dried salted shrimps together with turmeric curry paste or powder. Butter and evaporated milk should be added to it towards the end of the cooking to enhence the fragrance.
Black Pepper Crab RM6.00 per 100g (Note : Min Order 2 Nos)
This Dish was very well presented. I found too much sliced onions and green pepper in this dish. I prefer the black pepper to be coarsed instead of fine. In order to get the tastes extremely pungent and spicy of the black pepper.

Sweet and Sour Crab RM6.00 per 100g (Note : Min Order 2 Nos)
Cautious! Chilli Padi which is also known as Bird's eye chilli has been used in this dish. Chilli Padi are largely used in the Thai Cuisine. It will add special fragrance to the dish and also burning hot sensation to the food. Normally for this dish, the gravy is rich with sweet and sour flavour together with beaten egg. When I tasted this dish I felt like I was in Thailand.

Fresh Mantou to dip into the Gravy of Sweet & Sour Crab RM0.80 per pc
In the early days, toasted breads were used to dip into the gravy but now they provide Mantou.

Fried Rice RM14.00 per Medium Plate
Kam Heong Crab, Black Pepper Crab, Sweet and Sour Crab, Fresh Mantou and Fried Rice on the Dining Table

Asam Prawn RM11.00 per 100g (Mixed Sizes)
I felt that the prawns did not marinate well enough because of the shell. The shell of the prawns at the middle section between the head and tail should be removed or made a slit down the prawn's back. While slitting the prawn's back, the intestines can be removed too. By doing that it will be able to marinate well together with the ingrediants before cooking.

Deep Fried Sotong (Squid) RM17.00 per Medium Plate
By adding a little bit of turmeric curry paste or powder to it, will make the taste a lot of difference. This dish pairs well with Beer
