Smirk’s Eclectic City Escape at The Heart of Bangsar

Situated in the heart of Bangsar, Smirk Café recently opened its doors to the public and it exudes a homey vibe you never knew you needed. On top of their nostalgic décor and carefully selected variety of dishes, owner Elizabeth David brings her own touch of an eclectic personality to the brand with little trinkets like a phonograph, a huge lip-shaped sofa, and tonnes more.

The grand launch for this new café restaurant was held on-scene in the comforts of Bangsar, with attendees extended the chance to sample some of the menu items as well as many of Last Polka‘s ice-cream flavours available at Smirk. The Serani Trio band serenaded guests with lovely acoustic numbers while they indulged in their food. Items served included the Electric Blue Lemonade, Virgin Colada, Mushroom Soup, Prawn Cocktail, Crab Salad, Lamb Meatball with Melted Buffalo Cheese, and Shredded Duck Confit with Coloured Pasta. They also have a dark chocolate espresso mousse, amongst other dessert items for the dessert inclined.

When asked what made her decide to open a café, owner Elizabeth David said of this new endeavour, “I always liked being out and about, but I’d always keep an eye open for quiet and homey spaces, so when I decided to start my own business, the idea of a café restaurant came to mind first and foremost.”

Tucked away from the denser part of Bangsar famed for serving all-day brunches and noon-time cocktails, the area’s reputation for great food and hangout spots is what attracted David to the location. But she wanted to make sure her café stood apart from the competition. So she named the café Smirk, referencing a cocky, humorous persona with just a touch of the laidback vibes, reflecting her personality, with an outgoing and bubbly exterior but homey warmth through and through.
