Tanjung Tualang Prawn House @ Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara

Tanjung Tualang Prawn House (Peranakan Cuisine) is a Halal restaurant located at Kota Damansara  which is famous for its fresh water prawns, been in business for about 5 years. Dorothy Ong (Managing Director) save your hassle to travel all the way to Tanjung Tualang, a town famous for fresh water prawns in Perak, by ensuring you their restaurant only uses live fresh water prawns from Tanjung Tualang. They are only of a few restaurant in PJ that offer live fresh water prawns, compared to frozen, the fresh one has a far superior texture and fragrance. The restaurant maintains a high quality standard for the food they serve and offering a variety of seafood dishes, chicken, vegetables, bean curd, soup, omelette and appetiser such as mango and paku kerabu, which is cooked with a twist Chinese and Nyonya. Set lunch also available with around 40 choices of noodles and rice. Crabs are also serve in the restaurant, due to the popular demand for it, famous for their Butter Cheese Crab ( a rich and creamy cover with aroma from curry leaves) and other hot sellers dish include ladies fingers sambal, belacan fried rice, sambal kembong fish rice, sotong with salted egg and more...

The restaurant is such a success and it is quite surprising to know that the Dorothy did not start out in the food industry. She was a Quantity Surveyor and a Marketing Manager for a chemical company and product companies. It does seem like Dorothy made a huge gamble by venturing into the food industry. She started her restaurant with only 4 dishes (Deep Fried Fresh Water Prawn with superior sauce, Claypot Assam Fish Head, Kampung Steamed Chicken and Ulam (special vegetable dish with her own sauce recipe made from home grown spices and herbs) and being the only cook. She still remembers how she started early those days. She would personally go to the wet market very early in the morning to buy the ingredients for her dishes. She insists that all the ingredients she uses must be fresh. She did have some help with the running of the restaurant from her family members. From being the sole cook of the restaurant, she has now trained chefs to cook for her restaurants. These chefs cook to cater for the high number of purchases daily. She also adds a personal touch to her business by offering catering to those staying or working near her shop.
It is indeed good to know that Dorothy also actively gives back to the community through her involvement with the Lions Club from 1997 to 2006. For the last 8 years, she was a full time volunteer.

Do pay Tanjung Tualang Prawn House a visit and if you do, don't forget to look out for its very impressive owner, Dorothy!
